Wig care
Care guide
A little care goes a long way. Follow these steps and your wig will stay soft and natural-looking for longer.
Before you start
- Use a wide-tooth comb or wig brush, never a fine comb.
- Use cool or lukewarm water. Hot water can loosen knots and damage fibres.
- Always dry and store your wig on a stand so it keeps its shape.
Human hair wigs
- Wash every 10–15 wears in cool water with a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner.
- Detangle gently from ends to roots with a wide-tooth comb. Never brush when soaking wet.
- Pat dry with a towel and let it air-dry on a wig stand.
- Use a heat protectant and keep styling tools under 180 °C.
- Store on a stand or in its silk bag, away from direct sunlight.
Synthetic wigs
- Wash every 15–20 wears in cool water with a synthetic-wig shampoo.
- Do not rub or wring. Shake gently and let it air-dry; the style returns as it dries.
- Only use heat if the product says "heat-friendly", and stay under 150 °C.
- Keep away from oven doors, kettles and open flames: heat can frizz the fibre.
Human & synthetic blend wigs
- Care for blends like synthetic wigs: cool water, gentle shampoo, air-dry.
- Low heat only (under 150 °C), always with a heat protectant.
- Detangle with a wide-tooth comb, working up from the ends.
Hairpieces & accessories
- Hand-wash fabric grips and caps in cool water with mild soap, then air-dry flat.
- Care for clip-in hairpieces the same way as the matching hair type above.
How long will my wig last?
With regular wear and good care, a human hair wig typically lasts 12 months or more, and a synthetic wig 4–6 months. Sun, heat, chlorine and salt water all shorten that, so rinse after swimming and store away from sunlight.
